Bridges

Dental bridges can be a wonderfully satisfying solution to the problems presented by a missing tooth or teeth. A bridge literally bridges the gap left by missing teeth by placing pontics — custom-made false teeth — between two crowns that are placed on either side of the gap. Filling in a gap with a bridge offers several advantages, including a full smile and an improved ability to speak, chew, and bite.

Dr. Laura Hannon uses either the traditional or the cantilever bridge. The traditional dental bridge is the most commonly used variety and is created by placing a dental crown on both sides of the gap and anchoring a false tooth in between. The cantilever bridge is used when teeth are present on only one side of the gap; the replacement tooth is fused to two dental crowns that are placed on the two closest teeth.

She can also use an aesthetic zirconium framework bridge that is both strong and conservative. This type of bridge replaces the missing tooth with a porcelain tooth that is bonded to zirconium wings.

Dr. Hannon understands how much bridges can mean to her patients’ perceptions of their own smiles and is happy to play a part in restoring their self-confidence. Schedule an initial consultation today if you would like to learn more about dental bridges.
